The Nabweru Chief Magistrates court has sentenced to 17 years, the man who murdered a nurse at International Hospital in Kampala(IHK)
Patricia Amoko, the Nabweru Chief Magistrate said since Shimanya had pleaded guilty on his own plea,it was prudent for court to be lenient to him.
She therefore noted that the 17 year sentence starting with the day of sentence is enough for the convict.
“He is a middle aged man of 46 years with children left behind by the deceased to take care of. It is therefore not true that he cannot reform and return to take care of the children who have already lost one parent,”Amoko said.
The magistrate however noted that Shimanya is free to appeal against the sentence in 14 days time.
Violet Kakai, 35, a nurse at IHK was hit several times with an axe by her husband, Simon Shimanya, following a long standing domestic wrangle.
