Young people under the East African Youth Parliament have asked their respective Governments to consider their ideas while formulating various policies since they are the majority these policies affect.
During this third Parliament sitting that convened at Sheraton Hotel on Friday 28 November, under the theme ‘’Youth engagement for global action’’ the East African Youth Parliamentary representatives passed more than 10 motions aimed at pushing for active Youth inclusion in Governance.
‘’We are involved in the bringing about sustainable development goals, we are the ones involved not only in getting into positions of leadership but also in mobilization activities like hanging and pinning posters yet you never include our voices” Said Emmanuel Wabwire, one of the youth representatives.
“We call upon Governments in East Africa including the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) to embrace the ability of the youth in policy making instead of seeing them as threats.” Part of their report read.
The august house deliberated on issues that ranged from teenage pregnancies, climate change, border tariffs and trade, peace and security to integration of East Africa.
