No Money to Pay Salary of New Councillors

Government has revealed that it has no funds to finance the payment of the newly elected councillors since their numbers have over whelming increased.
While appearing before the parliamentary committee on public service and local government for their ministerial policy statement for the coming financial year 2021/211, the minister of local government who is also Member of Parliament for Igara west Raphael Magyezi told colleagues of how they are also in dismay over the funding gap for the new councillors that have not been chartered for in this financial year.
Magyezi ,however, says that the new cities have been allocated funds in the upcoming budget starting July to manage several of their works like infrastructure development, garbage management and staffing.
Parliament on April 28, 2020, approved the creation of 15 cities 10 of which commenced on July 1st including; Arua, Gulu, Jinja, Mbarara, Fort Portal, Masaka and Mbale, Soroti, Lira and Hoima cities. The other cities are; Entebbe, Moroto, Nakasongola, Kabale and Wakiso.
