Outgoing District Chairpersons Denied Cars

Government has declared that the outgoing chairpersons Local Council of districts are not going to be allowed to go with the official cars they have been using.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi on Thursday.
The minister says this cannot be possible because it will mean buying new cars all over again for the incoming district chairpersons which money is not available.
But new cars have been budgeted for and to be provided for the mayors of the new cities and district chairperson for the new districts.
The long awaited bicycles for LC’s and motor cycles for sub county chairperson are to be received starting July.
The minister confirms that in conjunction with the ministry of ICT they are to procure tablets for parish chiefs and computers for every sub county and this is under the parish model implementation. This fund of 490bn shs and every parish is yet to receive 41m shs and 50m shs per town council.
The permanent secretary to the ministry of local government Ben Bemanya told the committee the new cities will operate under the local government act for now but with time they are to bring up the cities law.
