Police have said that the Monday incident that resulted to the death of one person on the campaign trail of National Unity Platform, presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi was caused by the recklessness of the supporters.
A statement released by the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango named the victims of the incident that happened at Mayanganyaga.
One person has died from Kawolo Hospital as a result of an earlier accident that happened today at Mayangayanga along Nagoje Road.
The accident that happened at around 1110 hours, involved a police motor vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and two civilian owned motorcycles. One motorcycle registration number is UDR 448C Bajaj red in colour while the registration of the other wasn’t identified.
The two motorcycle riders were riding carelessly and each was carrying two passengers.
As the two riders were riding their motorcycles, one lost control of his motorcycle and knocked the other. The riders and passengers fell in the middle of the road and were knocked by a police car.
One victim was rushed to Kawolo Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he has passed on.
The deceased has been identified as Jonathan Ssempala, a 28-year-old.
In related developments, there are five people who sustained injuries when the vehicle they were in overturned.
Vincent Ssempijja, 18, is still admitted at Kawolo Hospital while the others have been referred to Mulago Referral Hospital.
They are Moses Ssentongo, 24, Steven Ssebuliba, 30, Robert Kigozi, 22, and Medi Ssebadeki. All are residents of Nakifuma, Mukono District.
