The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has highlighted the continued absence of medical services for people with special needs as one of the challenges in the health sector.
Ms Kadaga said this during the vetting of members of the Health Service Commission by Parliament. She singled out limited means of effectively communicating with groups like the blind, deaf and the mute in hospitals as the biggest challenge.
The Speaker recommended that training of Health workers includes the component of sign language. She also urged the Minister Education; Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development; the Minster of Health and the Equal Opportunities Commission to interest themselves in this matter.
